Attitude

In the most practical terms, I feel that the essential expression of our spirituality is our attitude. We can regularly attend church or synagogue, intensely study scriptures, or spend considerable time meditating and praying. Yet, if we don't express a simple kind, loving attitude toward ourselves and others then what has our spiritual or religious practice gained us.

Attitude is a process of consciously choosing the way we think, talk and act. It is the choice between...................

• A smile or a frown
• Releasing sadness by crying or repressing into depression
• Acceptance of another's actions or holding resentment
• Generosity which affirms prosperity or selfishness which reflects scarcity
• Unconditional love or demanding fairness
• Valuing your personal assets or feeling shame over personal defects
• Simply grieving loss or feeling regret
• Assertiveness or aggression
• Being a survivor or a victim
• Seeing opportunities or problems
• Accountability or blame

Our interpretation of our life events is a form of storytelling. By our thoughts, reactions and the way we describe ourselves to others, we create either an optimistic story filled with opportunities and challenges or pessimistic story filled limitations and problems. These stories frequently become a script which we act out. If "all the world is a stage", I encourage you to choose your part wisely. Enjoy !
