Doubt Vs. Knowing
There are many times in life when we experience events with confusion and doubt. We seem to have our mind spinning with thoughts and feelings of the past and future. We are confused by what we think could of been or what should happen. This observation has drawn me to see doubt as a form of time distortion.
It has been said that,
"All guilt occurs in the past."
"All anxiety occurs in the future."
"All change only occurs in the present."
I have found it is important to be confident that in most situations we do have an access to a wisdom, a knowing which will serve us in bringing clarity to that which is best for us in any given situation. The image of a radio station which is coming in strong and clear is good metaphor for this knowing. Doubt is much like the static that occurs if we are not tuned in well to this radio station. No matter how intently we listen to and examine the static it can never give us the true sense of right action that tuning in clearly to our knowing provides.
These are some thoughts on shifting from doubt to knowing.
- When doubt is a question it is useful to our process. If you ask in a given situation, "Is this the best choice ?", doubt becomes a search for
- growth and quality. If doubt is a judgment, it is likely to challenge and weaken self esteem. The thought that you are a bad person disempowers you in a core way.
- Few choices in life are permanent and irreversible. If you come to a forkin the road, you can with your best awareness choose what you feel is the best path. If then through following this path, you find that it is not what you want, then you can turn around and return to the fork in the road. Or you may find that there is another path or shortcut to the other choice.
- Doubt is frequently a confusion between what we truly want to choose and what we think we should do.
- Doubt occurs at times when we attempt to figure out with our mind situations which are best dealt with by following our heart.
- Knowing commonly is revealed to us through quietly reflecting uponthe situation at hand. Patience and faith provides us with the mind set which allows us to tune into the clear signal of knowing.
- Knowing is fostered from a solid ground of empowerment in ourselves.
- Doubt is a quick sand of second guessing and negative thinking.
I invite you to doubt the tangled web of thoughts that your mind can weave. I encourage you to know your own truth with confident hope.
