Ways To Enjoy Eating More

The body, mind and spirit are not separate entities. They are merely models, ways of thinking, and perspectives by which to achieve awareness of ourselves. Each of these views or aspects offers a window and a mirror to the other aspects of ourselves. In this way even the simple act of eating can speak to us about how we emotionally digest things or spiritually nurture ourselves.

Here are ways to enjoy eating more.

1) Eat slower. You give yourself more time to experience the flavors and textures of the food. It also takes about twenty minutes for the stomach to communicate to your mind that it's full. Slower eating decreases the likelihood that you will overeat.

2) Carefully look at, smell, and feel your food. The more senses that you utilize offers you a richer experience.

3) Value what you eat. Eat with an "attitude of gratitude" and give a grateful thought to the plants or animals that sacrificed and all those who participated in bringing it to you.

4) Eat less. You will digest food better by leaving sufficient space in your stomach for proper movement. It's the same idea as avoiding overfilling your clothes washer.

5) Eat more frequently and in smaller amounts. this allows you to eat in spirit of relaxation rather than desperation or hunger.

6) Eat when you truly desire food and not just because it's meal time. As your body comes into balance it will more clearly tell you when and what to eat.

7) Eat "au natural". Try eating without adding salt, pepper, spices or condiments. Allow yourself to experience the subtle natural flavor of the food.

8) Eat in silence. Allow your full attention to focus on each morsel.

9) Explore new and exotic foods. Variety is literally the spice of life.

10) Pray before, during and after you eat. Allow each meal to be sacred and an act of spiritual "communion".

We can elevate eating from a mere necessity for life to a creative, celebrative act of nourishment for the body, mind and spirit.

Bon Appetite !
